Salisbury boasts a number of accolades that reinforce it as a must-see for any New Forest visitor! As Britain's 'city in the country', Salisbury rubs shoulders with the likes of Milan and Singapore, ranking 7th in the world (in Lonely Planets list of Top 10 Cities to visit) thanks to its huge mix of historical bounty and modern day offerings!
Standing proud and at the heart of the city, Salisbury Cathedral holds many impressive records that make it a popular attraction. This beautiful 13th Century Gothic cathedral is home to the tallest spire in England, the worlds best preserved copy of the iconic 1215 Magna Carta and Europe's oldest working clock!
It is very easy to lose track of time with the generous amount of things to see and do here, and the varied Tudor, Georgian and Victorian architecture make wandering around Salisbury's streets a real visual indulgence.
As well as offering great historical attractions within the city, Stonehenge is only eight miles away. You can also enjoy the best of modern day activities. Indulge and treat yourself in the large mix of independent and high street shops as well as twice-weekly markets; alternatively try out the fantastic selection of pubs, cafes, bars and restaurants that have helped to gain Salisbury its Purple Flag status!
The tranquil market town of Romsey offers a peaceful escape with a great selection of historical attractions.
With origins dating back to 907AD, Romsey's Norman Abbey is well worth a visit. Just five minutes away, and boasting three attractions in one, you will find King John's House (complete with Medieval graffiti and flooring made of bone!) Tudor Cottage and the Victorian Heritage Centre with its beautiful surrounding gardens.
Once home to Florence Nightingale and now with its resident green fingered Charlie Dimock, Romsey's picturesque and quintessentially English charm has caught the hearts of many!
Stretch your legs and potter around the pretty streets to enjoy a great selection of shops and eateries or take a walk alongside the River Test and soak up the countryside views!
For families, Romsey Rapids and Paultons Park (home to the famous Peppa Pig World) provide fantastic action packed days out in themselves. and guarantee a good nights sleep!
The Cathedral was built in just 38 years in a single architectural style, early English Gothic using 70,000 tons of stone, 28,000 tons of oak and 420 tons of lead - the spire is Britain's tallest and weighs 6,500 tons! Home to the original copy of the magna carta!
